Wine Spotting
There are so many varietals and so many blends to choose from; so many price points and levels of quality to stress over that choosing a wine can freeze you in your tracks or make you head for the watery yellow beer aisle. Valerie tastes thousands of wines a year and her taste memory is almost as good as my nose memory. So let us take the stress out of sniffing out a good deal or following the trail of a good wine. Check out what we’ve been sipping and smelling!
- A to Z Wineworks Rose From Sangiovese grapes, Southern Oregon Fruity and graceful, stawberry on the nose, more citrus on the palate
- A dry and slightly fruity asti style wine but with more depth than a spumanti.
- Antelope Ridge Estate Winery Oliver, BC This is a lovely blend of berry flavours and an earthy, meaty tannin. Complex and very food friendly.
- Bolton Cellars 2007 Meristem $17 A medium bodied blend (88% Pinot, 12% Merlot)of our virietal wines from our estate vineyards. It has a fabulous intensity of color as well.
- Bumont intense nose of pineapples and pears, good acid with a silky edge, very pleasant summer wine. Inexpensive at $4.99
- Demensbusch Reisling from Mosel vom roten schiefer 2006 Crisp but floral, good acid and good with food
- Karthauserhof 2007 Reisling Kabinett Mosel Saar Ruwer Ripe with vanilla apricot on nose, with good acid and a mineral finish $33
- Naked Winery Penetration Cab. Sauv. 2004 Very dark cherry, licorice and leather. Yum!
- Snows Lake
- Snows Lake ONE, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon: “Lovely richness on the palate. The fruit is forward and there is plenty of tannin behind it for balance. Flavors linger long. CA North Coast
